James Morgan, Principal
James graduated from Plymouth Polytechnic School of Architecture in 1983 and has practiced at MWT Architects, the Louis de Soissons Partnership and The Company of Designers in England and at the Stageberg Partnership in Minneapolis.
Soon after arriving in North Carolina in 1991 James established the independent design studio now known as BellaDomus. Since then he has designed many high-performance, green and not-so-big homes in the Triangle and surrounding areas as well as numerous renovations, additions and remodels.
James is a frequent contributor to green building forums and is passionate about connecting the best of contemporary architectural thinking with the inherited wisdoms of local and regional building traditions. His wife Monica is an artist who fills their Chapel Hill home with vibrant color and texture.

Beth Frey, Associate
Beth is a graduate of the UNC Asheville liberal arts program. After a first career in catering and food service management she decided to pursue her love of color and design, joining BellaDomus in 2003 and becoming a partner in 2010.
While James creates the spaces, Beth fills in the details. Her insight into kitchen and bathrooms, lighting, floor finishes and wall treatments keeps clients on track to meet their needs and desires for their new rooms. She also acts as a liaison with builders to keep projects moving forward on time and on budget.
Beth and her husband Chris own a home in rural Orange County and enjoy the pleasures of country life. They love traveling the southern US and spending time with their five cats - George, Winfield, Nipper, Francis and Clovis.
